Anyhow, when I plug in my thumbdrive a yellow circle with an exclamation mark comes up for that USB port and it says "DeviceConnected." Unfortunately, I received an error message. You don’t want to create a hardware problem if you don’t already have one. I want to mension that i had the same problem with other 2 mouses. I took it to the repair shop.

I don't know a lot about computers but I was able to get my USB ports working again thanks to your wonderful and helpful instructions! In windows 10, I am not able to see the USB key, instead there are multiple USB related folders in regedit. We decided on no Win 10 updates as yet, as it's just another learning curve for them. This is how the ports appear from the Device Manager (it's in Italian, but it should be understandable):If I uninstall the usb controllers and re-install them automatically (using the device manager), There is also a design fault where some part is located near the touch pad that effects sound and USB ports that cannot be fixed I believe.
I'm very desperate now. Every one else said to just disable and restart and let windows pick them back up. If not, could be the port in the laptop. Finally I did a system restore and WHAAa it worked, now I have all the usb port back.
