This site is not affiliated with Linus Torvalds or The Open Group in any way. Luckily, I too have a Huawei USB modem, I don't use it anymore, but used to use it and worked with Ubuntu flawlessely. Everything seems great other than the USB mouse. Mention in the bug report which button number is reported, e.g. http://askubuntu.com/questions/506673/usb-mouse-not-working-after-unplug-plug-in-14-04
it works for me. If you have a USB mouse unplug it an replug it to see if it starts working again. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it.
You're suggesting removing major packages. Booting from a live disk it works all perfectly, any suggestion on recovering from this situation?
